Promotion of Mitigation and Disaster Risk Reduction of Typhoons

Performance task 2 Q3The Philippines by virtue of its geographic circumstances is highly prone to natural disasters, such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tropical cyclones and floods, making it one of the most disaster prone countries in the world. Philippines assess the country's current capacity to reduce and manage disaster risk, and identify options for more effective management of that risk. The Philippine institutional arrangements and disasters management systems tend to rely on a response or active approach in which disasters are avoided, by appropriate land use planning, comstructions and other pre event measures which avoid the creation of disaster prone conditions.

The NDRRMP is consistent with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Framework. which serves as the principal guide to disaster risk reduction and management efforts to the country. The framework envisions a country of safer adaptive and disaster resillient Filipino communities.

How would you promote the disaster risk reduction and management?

PREPAREDNESS
1. Identification and measuring risk.
2. Education and knowledge development.
3. Informing people about their risk.
       (awareness raising)
4. Incorporating DRM into national planning and investment.
5. Strengthening institutional and legislative arrangements.

For me I wiil choose the city mayor's point of view because local government has the first hand knowledge of your community's social economic, infrastructure, and environmental needs helping them to provide support in a disaster. Local government can bring also awareness, education, preparedness, and prediction and warning systems can reduce the disruptive impacts of a natural disaster on communities. Mitigation measures such as adoption of zoning, land use practices, and building codes are needed, however to prevent or reduce actual damage from hazards.
